St Mauritius is a housing scheme for elderly residents located in Lewisham. This project was undertaken for one of our clients who is a member of the G15 group. As part of the project, we installed 130 LED emergency lights, which are integrated into the Specto-XT Gateway System. This system, designed and manufactured by the specialist company Philip Payne, is compliant with the BS EN 62311 standard.

Placement of LED Emergency Lights

The placement of the lights was carefully considered to ensure that they provide sufficient illumination for the residents to safely exit the building in case of an emergency. We calculated the Lux level, which is a unit of illuminance, to determine the appropriate intensity of light needed. This is crucial in emergency situations where the visibility plays a vital role.

The system we installed offers several benefits to our client, including remote self-testing, which helps to reduce asset management costs. Additionally, there is a traffic light dashboard that provides instant failure notification to the end user. When everything is functioning properly, a green heart symbol is displayed. In the event of a failure, the manufacturer is automatically notified during the warranty period for prompt rectification.

The system also allows for instant certification draw off, making it easier for our client to obtain the necessary documentation. Furthermore, it provides information on battery life, hours in use, and kWh used for lifecycle calculations of the product. For example, the LED lights we installed have a lifespan of 50,000 hours.

Another advantage of this system is that it reduces costs as it only requires a mains supply for connection. It can be easily commissioned by a single programmer and does not require a Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) cable.

In terms of energy efficiency, the wireless transmission of this system only occurs for 1% of the total time it is in operation. This means that it uses less energy compared to other systems.

Overall, St Mauritius now has an advanced lighting system that not only meets the necessary safety requirements but also offers various benefits to our client.
